United Way Begins Recycling Program!
Local non-profit recycles thanks to volunteer citizen's efforts
Hands On Savannah is a direct service of the United Way of the Coastal Empire and is excited to report that our United Way has been accepted into the Partnership for a Sustainable Georgia at the Bronze level in the Sustainable Office Toolkit Track Program. The first action for United Way's staff and the non-profit organizations who have offices in the United Way building is to focus on recycling. The Recycling Program began in August with the first recycling pick up by a private company, Islands Recycling. The City of Savannah replaced one large dumpster with 3 roll out garbage cans and we're already seeing significant decrease in waste volume. What makes this project even more special is the fact that an extraordinary community volunteer, Charlie Milmine, approached Hands On Savannah with the idea, he did the upfront work on getting the program started and he continues to facilitate the program for us!
