Who We Are: Georgia Sierra Club members and supporters are more than 11,000 of your friends and neighbors. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet. Our chapter is the largest grassroots environmental organization in the state of Georgia.
Our Mission: To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; And to use all lawful means to carry out those objectives.
Our History: The Sierra Club is a widely recognized environmental nonprofit organization. Its members work to empower citizens to protect their environment, primarily through involvement in the democratic process afforded by our constitution. The Sierra Club, created in 1892, has over 100 years of history and experience in conserving and protecting the natural environment.
During this history, individual states have formed chapters. The Georgia Chapter was formed in 1983 by a few forward thinking volunteers dedicated to Georgia and its environment.
The Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club's mission is to be the leading organization that empowers Georgians to take action to preserve, protect and enjoy our environment.
Our Vision: We are a widely recognized and respected organization whose engaged and diverse members work actively to build relationships, influence leaders and lead our citizens to protect our environment and to create a safer, more livable community throughout the state of Georgia.
